About me

Welcome to my website. No need to take off your shoes, unless you feel compelled to do so. Help yourself to tea and coffee but don’t feed the animals. No AI has been used in the creation of this bio (apart from sentences ending with an asterisk*).

My name is Darren Dutton. It wasn’t my choice. I’m 5’6″ and still waiting for the growth spurt promised in 1990. My blood group type is A, please make a note of this for any future communications.

I’m probably best known for several things, only two of which are publishable here. As the co-creator/writer of BBC Three’s surreal online comedy series “Big Field” and for the videos and memes I created on social media during the pandemic which, much like Covid-19 itself, went viral. In addition to that, these are some more words: writer, director, producer, editor, actor, musician, composer, stand-up comedian, educator.

I have over two decades of experience in the creative industries, working across the UK broadcast landscape, creating comedy content for a wide range of platforms and channels.*

Alongside this, I’ve also spent over 25 years as a lecturer in creative media, supporting and inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.*

In 2020, I shifted my focus towards digital platforms, following the success of my social media content during the pandemic — which collectively gained millions of views. That success turned into a new professional direction: social media strategy, digital production, and online storytelling.*

OK, I’m going to try to use less AI now but it’s just better at explaining the less interesting bits.

What I do

These days, I work across several creative and educational spaces, offering a range of services including:

  • Social Media content creation and management. I continue to support UK TV programmes and podcasts with their social media platforms. Shows I have worked on include Have I Got News For You, The One Show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, Morning Live and Strictly Come Dancing.
  • Filmmaking initiatives – I’m seeking FE supply placements, teaching creative media. I’m also keen to work in less mainstream education settings to explore making creative moving image work with students who may not follow the traditional academic route.
  • Stand up comedy and comedy writing

Who I work with

I work with production companies, broadcasters, digital teams, educational institutions, live event organisers, and creative collaborators of all kinds. Whether you’re developing a new series, planning a short-term school project, or looking for someone to step up to the mic, I bring experience, humour, and creative energy to every collaboration.*

Let’s Work Together

This site is a place to explore what I do and hopefully find new people to work with. If you’re looking for a versatile creative with a strong comedy background — in digital media, education, performance, or live events — feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear about your ideas.*

OK, so that bit about using less AI didn’t really work but I’m hoping to develop this in time and be AI-free by 2030. Thanks for visiting.
